‘DWTS’ Season 33 Cast Includes Anna Delvey, Tori Spelling and Jenn Tran

“Beverly Hills, 90210” alum Tori Spelling and Ilona Maher, the viral star who helped the U.S. women’s team win a historic bronze medal at the Paris Summer Olympics, have joined season 33 of “Dancing With the Stars.”

Spelling, 51, and Maher, 28, will compete in the reality TV ballroom dancing competition against a celebrity cast that includes “Bachelor” star Joey Graziadei, “Bachelorette” star Jenn Tran, former NBA star Dwight Howard, two-time Super Bowl winner Danny Amendola, Oscar-nominated actor Eric Roberts (brother of Julia and father of Emma) and “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Phaedra Creonta Parks.

ABC also confirmed that Manhattan con artist Anna Delvey, aka Anna Sorokin, the real-life subject of the Netflix series “Inventing Anna,” will also be appearing on the show. Olympic gymnast Steve “The Pommel Horse Guy” Nedoroscik was previously announced to appear on the “DWTS” season, which premieres Sept. 17 (8 EDT/PDT).

US Olympic rugby star and TikTok sensation Ilona Maher aims for a medal on ‘DWTS’

What a month it’s been for Maher, who became a superstar at the Paris Games by playing for Team USA women’s rugby and documenting her life in viral videos on TikTok (2.3 million followers). A life that now includes modeling for Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit cover for the magazine’s September digital issue and appearing on “DWTS.”

“It’s almost like it’s a cool rite of passage,” Maher told USA TODAY. “So many of my Olympic idols, f“From Simone Biles to Suni Lee, I’ve done ‘Dancing.’ And it’s a new skill that takes me out of my comfort zone.”

The athlete, who teams up with professional dancer Alan Bersten, admits ballroom dancing on a national stage is daunting. Just thinking about the hours of training and performing in front of a live audience can be “overwhelming,” she says. Maher has no formal dance training and few of the skills required for rugby are transferable.

“A lot of rugby is about giving it your all and throwing your body at your opponent, so we’ll see how I can move my body here,” Maher said. “And my dancing skills, I don’t think, are really up to par. My dancing skills with my friends are good, but my ballroom dancing skills suck. Hopefully having fun with my friends can translate to that ballroom.”

Accustomed to wearing sweat- and dirt-stained uniforms on the rugby battlefield, Maher is particularly pleased with the outrageous “DWTS” outfits.

“The glitz and glamour is very present in this outfit, and I love dressing up,” Maher says. “It’ll be really fun to wear more glitz and sparkle.”

For Tori Spelling, It Was a ‘Crazy Journey’ to ‘DWTS’

Spelling turned down an offer to appear on the first season of “DWTS” in 2005 and has rejected every season since.

“It’s been a crazy journey because for 32 seasons, they made the call and I said no,” Spelling says.

Her reason has always been a crushing fear of dancing on national television, compounded by sitting in the studio audience cheering on her “90210” castmates Ian Ziering (Season 4) and Jennie Garth (Season 5). “Those two experiences terrified me even more, and just seeing how rigorous it all was,” Spelling says.

But after enduring public health issues, money problems and estrangement from her husband Dean McDermott, the mother of five says she’s making a fresh start after turning 50 (she filed for divorce from McDermott in March).

“They say that after 50, it’s the second chapter of a new life. And my life over the past year has definitely been a new me,” Spelling says. “Timing is everything. This year, when the call came, it was time for a checkup. It still terrifies me. But I have to get rid of that fear.”

Throughout her television career, Spelling has had no formal dance training, but often posts exuberant performances on TikTok. Another obstacle to “DWTS” could be a long period of avoiding any physical training.

“I don’t exercise, I come here with no physical activity,” Spelling says. “I’m the girl who drives through the Target parking lot looking for the closest spot to the store. And yet I was out of breath doing my back-to-school shopping.”

Spelling confided her fears and the secret of casting on “DWTS” to two friends, including “90210” alum Brian Austin Green, who appeared on Season 30 of “DWTS” with his life partner, professional dancer Sharna Burgess.

“I explained my limitations to them,” Spelling says. “And they gave me some really good advice.”

It was a useful discussion, but not enough to give Spelling confidence that he can win the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy after two rehearsals with his professional partner, Pasha Pashkov.

“I just want to get through the first week, honestly,” Spelling says. “But I’m realizing through this process that I’m really strong and really competitive, especially with myself. I’m not one to give up. I’m a fighter. I give it my all and keep going.”
